Locations

The Locations table contains information on locations of all sites involved in your supply chain: customers, DCs, factories and suppliers.

There are three ways to define a location You can:

  • Import the MS Excel data sheet with a scenario containing the predefined locations. The coordinates will be filled automatically.
  • Add a site by using the GIS map. A new entry in the Locations table with the auto-generated name and the corresponding site coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) will be created automatically.
  • Create a new entry in the Locations table and provide the Name and the Country values as the name of the city and the name of the country. If the Autofill coordinates toggle button is activated, the location coordinates will be obtained automatically based on the provided values. Otherwise, you can specify the coordinates manually. For a more accurate object location you can additional specify address.

The location that you create in the Locations table does not have any object (site, customer etc.) assigned to it. It is just a location that you can assign an object to. The GIS map will not depict this location until you assign a site, customer etc. to it.

Column Description

Code

Zip (postal) code of the location. This field is optional and can be left empty.

Name

Name of the location.

When you add sites by using the GIS map, sites' locations get auto-generated names: the location of Supplier 1 gets the name Supplier 1 Location, etc. You can edit the name if necessary. We recommend to give the locations meaningful names since you will refer to the locations by their names in other tables ( Customers, DCs and Factories, Suppliers and Paths).

You can also provide the name of an existing city as the location name. The city name should be spelled correctly: if the Autofill coordinates toggle button is activated, the name will be sent as the search request to Maptiler to obtain the location coordinates.

City

Name of the city, where the location is situated. The city name must be spelled correctly: if the Autofill coordinates toggle button is activated, the name will be sent as the search request to Maptiler to obtain the location coordinates.

If the city is not specified, the value of the Name column will be sent as the search request to Maptiler.

Region

Name of the region, state or district where the location is situated. The field is optional, providing Name and Country is usually enough.

Country

Name of the country where the location is situated.

The country name must be spelled correctly. If the Fill coordinates automatically toggle button is activated, the name will be sent as the search request to Maptiler to obtain the location coordinates.

Address

The exact address of the object's location. This field is optional, providing Name and Country is usually enough. Click here to learn more.

Latitude

Latitude coordinate of the location.

You can either provide this value manually or retrieve it automatically.

To retrieve this value automatically, provide the Name and Country values and ensure that the Fill coordinates automatically toggle button is activated.

Longitude

Longitude coordinate of the location.

You can either provide this value manually or retrieve it automatically.

To retrieve this value automatically, provide the Name and Country values and ensure that the Fill coordinates automatically toggle button is activated.

Autofill Coordinates

Defines whether the location coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) are filled automatically when Name and Country are provided:

  • If activated, editing the location's Name or Country will trigger the Maptiler GIS search to retrieve the latitude and longitude values for the location. The corresponding Latitude and Longitude fields will be filled automatically with the received data.

The Fill coordinates automatically toggle button will be deactivated if you manually edit the Latitude or Longitude values.

  • If deactivated, editing the location's Name or Country values will not affect the Latitude and Longitude values.

Defining the exact location

  1. Create a customer and name it Holmes.
  2. Open the Locations table. and define the obligatory data: the city and the country.
    • Type London in the City column cell.
    • Type United Kingdom in the Country column cell.
  3. Now type Baker Street 221B in the Address column cell as the additional data for more accurate positioning.
  4. Enable the toggle button in the Autofill Coordinates column.
Voila, the customer will be placed at The Sherlock Holmes Museum.

How automatic search works

Coordinates can be automatically filled if at least the two obligatory values are defined. These can be either of the following:

  • Country and City
  • Country and Name — this combination is considered if the City is not specified.

For either of the abovementioned combinations anyLogistix will refer to its inner database to find the location.

To find the exact location you must additionally specify Address. In this case the combination of the obligatory data will comprise:

  • Country + City + Address — learn how to define the exact location
  • Country + Name + Address — this combination is considered if the City is not specified

anyLogistix will search the exact location online by referring to the Maptiler server.

Please note the following:

  • If the provided Address is wrong or cannot be found, anyLogistix will consider combination of Country + zip Code to search location online and in the local database.
  • If the zip Code is not defined or the location cannot be found, anyLogistix considers Country + City to search location in the local database and proceedes searching online if required.
