Creating a New Project

The very first project is created automatically on starting ALX for the first time. The scenarios that you further create are stored within this project.

If you need to separate the new scenarios from the existing ones, you may create a new project.

Note: The new project will have default parameters, i.e. no custom defined units, icons etc. will be initially available. This may cause issues when importing existing scenarios.

To create a new project

  1. Choose File > Select Project from the main menu.
The Select Project dialog box will open, allowing you to create, delete or edit any existing project.

  2. Click Create. The Create Project dialog box will appear, prompting you to specify:
  3. Click OK to save the changes and close the Create Project dialog box.
The just created project will be selected in the Select Project dialog box.
  4. Click OK.
ALX will create a database for the new project.
If you have previously enabled the Password protection mode, a dialog box will appear prompting you to create a user with administrator rights for the new DB, otherwise you'll be good to go.

Note: It is not recommended to leave the set by default "guest" & "guest" user credentials.

  5. Specify the Username and the Password details of the user. Click OK.

Note: You must create a new admin user for every new multiuser project. You cannot use existing users for a new project, but you can create a user with the same Username and Password details for every project. When you switch between projects the users that you create for each project remain within the project they were created for.

  1. Click OK to create a user with the previously specified Username and the Password details.

To specify a non-default DB type for the new project
  1. Open the Select Project dialog box and click Create.
  2. Expand the Create Project dialog box by clicking the Default option in the DB type parameter and selecting Custom from the drop-down list.
  3. Click DB type drop-down list, select the required DB type and defiend its parameters:

  4. Define parameters of the selected DB type below the DB type parameter.
  5. Click OK to save the changes and close the Create Project dialog box.
The just created project will be selected in the Select Project dialog box.
  6. Clcik OK to close the dialog box and connect to the database.
