Importing Scenario Data

To prepare scenario data for importing

The scenario data that you plan to import needs to follow certain naming and formatting conventions. To ensure that naming and formatting are correct, you may want to create a scenario template MS Excel file in ALX and fill it with your own data.

The coordinates of the objects in the importing scenarios will be automatically filled, unless:

Note: On importing MS Excel file into the existing scenario, you can add the missing data to it, but be careful.

To import scenario data from MS Excel file

  1. You can import a scenario by doing either of the following:

The Import Scenario dialog box will open:

  2. Select the MS Excel file with the scenario data by clicking the  Browse button to the right of the field and navigating to the existing file.
  3. Provide the name of the new scenario in the New scenario name field.

  4. Click Advanced options if you need to modify the import parameters:

  5. Click OK to close the dialog box and import the scenario data. The newly created scenario will be located in the tab that corresponds to the type of the imported scenario (GFA, NO, SIM, TO):

Note: If you are importing a scenario into the project that lacks certain units, a pop-up message will inform you about all the missing units (and their corresponding conversions in case of user-defined units) that must be created.

To create a scenario tamplate

A scenario template is an empty MS Excel file with proper ALX naming and formatting.

  1. Create a new scenario in ALX.
  2. Add records to the data tables of the new scenario that will serve as examples of data values.
  3. Export the created scenario to a new MS Excel file. The file will contain the worksheets corresponding to the ALX data tables as well as examples of data values.
You can now fill the exported file with your own data to later import it to ALX as a new scenario.
